How it works
What happens when you bring a watch in
- Bring it in, or call firstWalk into our showroom during opening hours, or call ahead if you would rather set a time or ask what to bring. There is no charge to have a watch looked at, and no obligation once you are here.
- We read it in front of youWe identify the make, the model and the reference number, check the serial, and look over the case, dial, crystal, bezel and bracelet. You watch every step and can ask what each one means.
- You get a clear offer and the reason for itWe explain what we found and make an offer, and we tell you what drove it: the model and demand, the condition, whether you have the box and papers, and any precious metal. If you want time to think or compare, that is fine.
- Say yes and get paid in cashAccept the offer and we pay you in cash before you leave. If you would rather not sell, you take your watch home. Nothing is bought until you agree to the price.
Why sell with us
A Madison Avenue watch buyer you can walk in to

At the counter
How a sale works at our Madison Avenue counter
Most people who sell a watch to us have never done it before, so here is exactly what happens, with nothing hidden. You bring your watch to our Madison Avenue showroom in Midtown Manhattan. You do not need an appointment, though you can call first if you want to set a time or ask what to bring for a particular piece.
Everything is done in front of you. We do not take your watch into a back room. We read the model and reference number that pin down exactly which watch it is, check the serial, and look over the case, dial, hands, crystal, bezel and bracelet, whether it runs and winds, and any service or replacement parts. As we go, we explain what we are looking at and why it matters, so the offer at the end is not a mystery number.

The offer, and your choice
When we have read the watch we make an offer and tell you how we reached it: the model and current demand, the condition, whether you have the box and papers, and any gold or platinum in the case. You are free to take the offer, think about it, or walk out with your watch. We would rather lose a sale than pressure anyone into one.
If you accept, you are paid in cash on the spot. We buy directly from you, with no middleman taking a cut and nothing mailed away to be assessed somewhere else. New York City rules require any buyer of second-hand watches and jewelry to record each purchase and to hold items for a set period before reselling, which is there to protect honest sellers. Our FAQ page explains what to bring, how payment works and what identification you need.

Why us
Why sell to an independent Madison Avenue buyer
Our showroom sits on Madison Avenue, right in Midtown Manhattan, and we buy watches directly from the public. We are an independent buyer, not a dealer for any brand, which matters to you in a simple way. You are selling to the buyer, not to a middleman who will turn around and sell your watch to someone like us. Cutting out those extra hands is how a direct buyer can pay more and pay faster.
Because we handle watches every day, we recognize a good piece and value it on its own merits, so a specialist tends to pay more than a pawn shop or a general jeweler. We read the reference, we price in the open, we pay cash on the spot, and we are glad to appraise a watch for free even if you decide to keep it. The showroom is easy to reach right in Midtown.
Buying directly, not through a chain
A mail-in service or a suburban shop usually has to send your watch on to a buyer anyway, and every hand it passes through takes a margin out of what you get. When you sell to us in person, you skip all of that and keep your watch in your sight until you agree to a price.
Midtown Manhattan is easy to reach by train or on foot, so coming in is one short trip. When you are ready, our about page explains who we are and how a visit works, and our contact page has our hours and directions.

What sets the price
What a watch is worth, and what lowers it
A watch is the one thing people most often undervalue when they sell, because its worth has little to do with the gold in it. For a luxury watch, the brand and the exact model drive the figure. The first things we need are the model and reference number and the serial number, which identify precisely which watch you have and which market it sits in. A Submariner and a Datejust are not interchangeable, and two versions of the same model can be worth very different amounts.
After the model, condition and completeness decide the rest. Scratches on the crystal, a worn bracelet, deep nicks and a faded dial all pull the offer down, while a clean, well kept piece brings more. Having the original box and papers, the purchase receipt and any service records lifts the value, because they help prove the watch is genuine and show its history. None of these are required to sell, but they help.

Brands with their own page
We buy Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille most often among the luxury houses, and each has its own page: sell a Rolex, sell a Patek Philippe, sell an Audemars Piguet and sell a Richard Mille. For Omega, Cartier, Vacheron Constantin and other fine brands, the luxury watch buyers page is the place to start, and for everyday, vintage or gold watches the sell my watch page is written for you.

Gold and platinum
When the case itself carries value
Some watches hold value in their metal as well as their make. A case or bracelet in solid gold or platinum has a floor set by its weight and purity, even for a watch nobody collects. Precious metal trades against a published spot price quoted per troy ounce, and gold purity is measured in karats out of twenty four parts, so the karat stamp tells us how much actual gold a case holds.
For a sought after brand, the watch is almost always worth more whole than melted, so we value the make first and treat the metal as the floor beneath it. But the metal is why a broken or unfashionable gold watch still carries real money. We weigh both the make and the metal and offer on whichever is higher, and we explain which one your watch is being paid on.
If your watch is an everyday or vintage gold piece rather than a luxury brand, the sell my watch page covers how we handle it. For the high end houses, the luxury watch buyers page explains how the make and the metal are weighed together.
Not sure if your watch is worth its make or its metal? Bring it in and we will tell you.
In person
Paid in person today, or an envelope in the mail
There are two ways to sell a watch: hand it to a buyer who reads it in front of you and pays you on the spot, or seal it in an envelope, mail it to a company you cannot see, and wait for whatever check they decide to send. The difference is not small.
When you sell in person, you watch the watch being read, you hear how the offer was reached, and you can ask questions or walk away with it still in your hand. You are paid cash on the spot. Nothing leaves your sight until you have agreed to a price. If the offer is not what you hoped, you have lost nothing but the trip.
What mail-in costs you
A mail-in kit asks you to give up all of that. Your watch is out of your hands and in the postal system before anyone has made an offer. The valuation happens where you cannot see it, and the first number you hear is often the last. Sending it back if you disagree means more time and more risk, and the company still has to be paid, so whatever margin a middleman takes comes out of your check.
Coming into our Madison Avenue showroom is one short trip, and it keeps your watch in your sight the whole way through. If you cannot get in easily, call us first to talk it through. Our contact page has our hours and how to reach us, and our about page explains how a visit works.
Skip the envelope. Bring your watch in and leave with cash that same visit.
Questions
Questions sellers ask before they come in
What watches do you buy?
We buy luxury watches such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille, Omega, Cartier, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, Breitling, Tudor and Panerai, along with everyday, vintage and gold watches. If you are not sure whether we buy yours, our sell my watch page is a good place to start.
Do I need an appointment?
No. You are welcome to walk into our showroom during opening hours. If you would rather set a time, or ask what to bring, call first. Our contact page has our hours.
Is the appraisal really free?
Yes. There is no charge to have your watch read and valued, and no obligation to sell afterward. If you do not like the offer, you take your watch home.
How and when do I get paid?
If you accept an offer, you are paid in cash on the spot, at the counter. We buy directly from you, so there is no waiting for a check in the mail.
Do I need the box and papers to sell?
No, but they help. The original box, the warranty card, the purchase receipt and any service records prove what the watch is and show how it was cared for, so a complete set raises the offer. Without them we still buy the watch; the offer simply reflects what is present.
Are you a dealer for Rolex or any brand?
No. We are an independent buyer. We do not represent, and are not a dealer for, Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille or any other brand. We buy watches from the public and value each one on its own merits. Brand names appear here only to describe the watches we buy.
How do you decide what my watch is worth?
We identify the exact watch by its model and reference number, check the serial, and look over the case, dial, crystal, bezel and bracelet and whether it runs. We weigh in the box and papers, the condition, current demand for the model, and any gold or platinum. Then we explain how we reached the number before we make a cash offer. Our luxury watch buyers page goes through it in detail.
Can I compare your offer with other buyers?
Yes, and we encourage it. You are free to take the number away, compare it elsewhere, and come back. We would rather you sold to us feeling sure than felt rushed.
